The trip home

Southampton to Sydney via Gibraltar, Naples (& Pompeii), Port Saïd and Colombo and Fremantle

There is only one letter from the return voyage. Not the most flattering photograph of Harry! The reason for this is that Harry's letters would have reached home at about the same time or following him.

It's not clear exactly where Harry's return journey took him but it is assumed to have ended in Sydney. However, he states in the last letter, on 1st Feb, that he was "two days out of Fremantle" and that "I do not think there is much news and anyway what there is will easily wait a day or two and then I will be able to tell you by word of mouth.".

Sydney would be more like a week away.

The official list of ports that the Ormonde visited during the 20s includes Marseilles, Adelaide and Melbourne but it is not clear if the vessel stopped here during this particular journey. There are no photos or mention of these ports in his last letter.
